It Is Safer To Stay On the Ship Of The Gospel

Staying on the ship of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the safest way we can cross the harsh ocean towards the Promised Land. How will you help others to prepare themselves to enter the temple?

After I completed my mission in Olongapo last June 2017, I was reminded by a friend about what we learned in 2015 during the multi-stake young single adults conference. Back then, we were taught about the difference between gospel culture and traditional Filipino culture.

Moving on to the next step in life, I thought I need to finish my education so I could also help my siblings earn their degree and obtain a career. This has always been a part of traditional Filipino culture but I later realized it was not a gospel culture.

I prayed and fasted for months. In November 2017, my friend Edmark arrived home from his mission in Legazpi.

We went out on a date and visited the temple in December 2017. We prayed and we felt a strong confirmation from the Spirit. Two months later, we told our families and friends about our decision to get married.Different reactions arose.

"How can you both provide for your needs if both of you are still studying?"
"Are you sure?"
"Who will help your family?"
"Is it too early for you to get married?"

Despite all the oppositions and persecutions we faced, we were happy and satisfied. Edmark and I were sealed for all time and eternity on June 06, 2018 in Cebu temple.

It took us a lot of faith but it's worth it. If we seek first His kingdom, He will bless us both temporal and spiritual.

Growing up in the church, I had the opportunity to increase my knowledge and understanding about the gospel. But when I started working, it became challenging for me and it led me to make some unwise choices.

I was working for a local TV network then. Most of the time, I had to work on Sundays. I barely had time to attend church activities. Also, it became difficult to invite the Spirit because of the kind of environment I was exposed to everyday. I decided to resign and found a job that allowed me to attend church and perform my callings.

I decided to put myself together and started by reading and pondering the Book of Mormon. As I applied the principles I learned, I gained pure testimony of the reality of Jesus Christ and the power of His Atonement.

Today, I feel that the challenges I face are twice as heavy as those I had before my mission. Sometimes I still make poor choices. But when things seem too hard to bear, I turn to the Lord and then to the scriptures.

I am confident that I will receive divine guidance and comfort as I always had. I know that following the pattern of daily scripture study will prepare us to face the challenges and to receive revelation.

God loves us today just as much as He loved His children in ancient times. So, just like those who lived thousands of years ago, we are given heavenly guidance through scripture, the Holy Spirit, and prophets - even modern prophets. Watch this video from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to understand why we have and need the prophets called by God today.
